9 Days Northern Circuit Route – Climb Mount Kilimanjaro

The 9 Days Northern Circuit Route – Climb Mount Kilimanjaro itinerary begins on the western side at Londorossi Gate before joining sections of the Lemosho Route and gradually veering north around the mountain’s remote flanks. The trail passes through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and high arctic summit terrain while maintaining a controlled altitude gain pattern. Camps are positioned to follow the “climb high, sleep low” principle where beneficial. By the time summit night approaches, climbers are typically well acclimatized due to the extended rotation around the mountain. The descent is completed via the Mweka Route, allowing for varied scenery throughout the expedition.

The best time for the 9 Days Northern Circuit Route – Climb Mount Kilimanjaro itinerary is during the dry seasons from January to March and from June to October. During these months, rainfall is minimal, summit visibility is clearer, and trail conditions remain more stable. January to March offers fewer climbers and occasionally snow-capped summit scenery, while June to October provides consistently dry conditions and comfortable trekking temperatures. Although the Northern Circuit can be climbed year-round, the long rains of April and May and the short rains in November may result in wetter trails and reduced mountain visibility, making the dry months the preferred periods for optimal summit success.
