Upon arrival in Kasese or transfer from Entebbe/Kampala, climbers are received and briefed by the mountain guide team. Gear inspection is conducted to ensure suitability for high-altitude trekking, and any necessary equipment adjustments are addressed. A short transfer is arranged to the Kilembe Trailhead at approximately 1,450 meters above sea level. Overnight accommodation is arranged at a comfortable foothill lodge in Kasese or Kilembe, allowing rest and preparation before the ascent begins.

The trek begins through cultivated foothill landscapes before dense montane forest is entered. The trail gradually ascends along the Nyamwamba River Valley, where birdlife and primate sightings may be observed. After approximately 5–6 hours of hiking, Sine Camp is reached. This first mountain hut offers a sheltered resting point surrounded by thick forest and cascading streams. Evening acclimatization walks are encouraged, and dinner is served by the mountain support team.

From Sine Camp, the route steepens as bamboo forest transitions into heather and moss-draped vegetation. A prominent feature known as the “Kalalama Rock” viewpoint is reached, offering expansive views of Kasese town and the plains below. The landscape becomes increasingly Afro-alpine as Mutinda Camp is approached. This stage typically requires 6–7 hours of trekking. The altitude gain supports progressive acclimatization, and time is allocated for rest and hydration.

A challenging yet scenic traverse across boggy valleys and rocky ridges is undertaken. The Mutinda Lookout provides panoramic views of the Rwenzori peaks and glacial valleys. Wooden boardwalks and careful foot placement are required in certain marshy sections. By late afternoon, Bugata Camp is reached near the shores of Bugata Lake. The alpine scenery here is dramatic, characterized by giant lobelias and sweeping mountain backdrops.

The trail continues across Bamwanjara Pass, one of the highest points before descending slightly toward Hunwick’s Camp. The pass offers striking views of Mount Stanley and surrounding peaks. This day involves both ascent and descent, enhancing acclimatization. Hunwick’s Camp is situated in a scenic valley beneath towering cliffs and snow-capped summits.

A steady climb is undertaken toward the base of Mount Stanley. Rocky terrain replaces vegetation as high-altitude conditions intensify. Glacial moraine and alpine rock dominate the approach to Margherita Camp. Upon arrival, climbers rest early in preparation for the summit attempt. Briefings on summit procedures, safety protocols, and equipment use are provided.

An early pre-dawn departure is made for the ascent of Margherita Peak, the highest point in the Rwenzori Mountains. Snow and ice sections may be encountered depending on seasonal conditions, and rope support is utilized where required. Upon reaching the summit, panoramic views extend across Uganda and into the Democratic Republic of Congo. After summit photography and brief celebration, descent is carefully undertaken back to Margherita Camp and onward to Hunwick’s Camp for overnight rest.

The descent continues through alpine valleys and highland meadows. Kiharo Camp is reached after several hours of trekking, offering relief as oxygen levels increase. The return journey allows climbers to appreciate the dramatic landscape from a different perspective.

A full descent through forested terrain is completed. Upon reaching the trailhead, certificates of completion are presented. Transfer back to Kasese is arranged for a well-earned rest at a comfortable lodge.

Depending on travel schedules, departure transfers are arranged to Entebbe or extensions to Queen Elizabeth National Park for wildlife safari experiences may be organized.
