Arrival and Transfer to Nyerere National Park

When you arrive at Dar es Salaam Airport, a Wildhorn Africa representative will be waiting to assist you and escort you to the domestic terminal. From there, you will board a scheduled light aircraft flight bound for Nyerere National Park in southern Tanzania. Upon landing at the airstrip, another representative will greet you and transfer you to your camp or lodge, where you will spend the next four nights immersed in the wilderness.

On Safari in Nyerere National Park

Nyerere National Park, once known as Selous, is Africa’s largest protected wilderness, spanning more than 50,000 square kilometers. Despite its vast size, it remains one of Tanzania’s less-visited gems, attracting far fewer travelers compared to the popular northern parks.

Its rivers and lakes support an abundance of wildlife, with Africa’s densest populations of hippos and crocodiles. Along the Rufiji River, particularly in the dry season from June to November, you can witness impressive gatherings of elephants. The park is also home to thriving populations of buffalo, giraffe, zebra, impala, eland, wildebeest, baboons, hyenas, lions, leopards, and the rare African wild dog.

Because Nyerere was originally a game reserve, Wildhorn Africa guides are permitted to drive off-road, giving you the chance to enjoy remarkably close encounters with the wildlife. In addition to morning and afternoon game drives, your safari can also include guided bush walks and tranquil boat excursions, ensuring a well-rounded wilderness experience.

With its pristine sandy beaches, shimmering turquoise waters, and vibrant coral reefs, Zanzibar offers the perfect setting to unwind after your safari adventure.

For those who prefer to stay active, Wildhorn Africa can arrange a wide variety of excursions, from exploring historic Stone Town, Jozani Forest, and Prison Island to discovering spice plantations and experiencing cultural encounters in local villages. Adventurers can also enjoy activities such as mountain biking, hiking, bird watching, windsurfing, kite surfing, sea kayaking, and sailing.
