8-Day Gorillas Murchison Falls and Kibale Chimp Trek

itinerary

Entebbe to Murchison Falls National Park via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

You will be picked up from your guest house in Entebbe or downtown Kampala at 8:00 am and transferred to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Rhinos disappeared from Uganda in the early 1980s, and the Ziwa Sanctuary now serves as a breeding center for white rhinos. Approximately two hours will be spent trekking to observe the rhinos. After this, the journey will continue onward to Murchison Falls National Park, all arranged by WildHorn Africa.

Game Drives and Nile River Boat Trip

In the morning, a game drive will be undertaken in the park to observe elephants, lions, giraffes, and other wildlife. During the afternoon, a leisurely boat cruise on the River Nile will be enjoyed, offering opportunities to spot crocodiles, hippos, and various rare bird species. The journey will also include viewing the spectacular point where the River Nile flows into Lake Albert, a key highlight of the trip. Dinner and overnight accommodation will be provided at Murchison Falls, arranged by WildHorn Africa.

Drive to the Top of Murchison Falls & Transfer to Kibale National Park

The journey will lead you to the upper section of Murchison Falls National Park, where breathtaking views of Murchison Falls along the Nile River can be enjoyed. Due to recent flooding of the Nile, hiking to the top of the falls from downstream is no longer feasible. Instead, access to the top is made via the new tarmac road. Following the visit to the falls, the drive will continue to Kibale National Park, passing through key cities in western Uganda such as Hoima, Kyenjojo, and Fort Portal. A lunch break will be scheduled en route. The drive is expected to take approximately 6 to 7 hours. Dinner and overnight accommodation will be arranged at Kibale National Park by WildHorn Africa.

Chimp Trek and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP for the Kazinga Channel Boat Trip

Beginning in the morning at Kibale Forest National Park, a trek will be undertaken into the forest to observe chimpanzees and various monkey species such as red-tailed monkeys, olive baboons, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. Following the chimpanzee trek, a three-hour drive will be made to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Upon arrival, participation in the Kazinga Channel boat cruise will offer the chance to see crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, and numerous bird species along the waterway. After the boat trip, the journey will continue to the lodge for check-in, dinner, and overnight stay, all coordinated by WildHorn Africa.

En-route Game Drive to Bwindi National Park

The day will begin with a brief game drive across the Kasenyi Plains in Queen Elizabeth National Park. These plains stretch across the expansive savannahs of the Albertine Rift within the park. The morning promises to be filled with excitement as encounters with lions, buffalo herds, elephants, Uganda kobs, topis, and bushbucks are anticipated. While spotting the full “Big Five” is not guaranteed, on a fortunate day, leopards may be sighted, bringing the count to the “Big Four.” Following the game drive, the journey to Bwindi National Park will commence, with the drive expected to take approximately 5 to 6 hours. This itinerary is arranged by WildHorn Africa.

Gorilla Trekking at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You will proceed directly to the gate of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. After breakfast, a briefing on the gorilla trek will be provided. A national park guide will give a presentation outlining what to expect during the trek. During this pre-trek briefing, the guide will assign trekking groups, and you will likely be joined by other visitors. The duration of the gorilla trek can vary, lasting several hours depending on how deep the gorillas are within the forest. In the afternoon, a Batwa Cultural Tour may be considered to support sustainable tourism in the region. An additional fee of USD 80 is required to contribute to the Batwa community. This experience is arranged by WildHorn Africa.

Transfer from Bwindi to Lake Mburo National Park

On this day, a transfer will be made from Bwindi National Park to Lake Mburo National Park. In the evening, a night game drive is scheduled at Lake Mburo National Park, offering the chance to spot leopards (though sightings are not guaranteed) and other wildlife in Uganda’s smallest savannah park. Dinner and overnight accommodation will be provided at Lake Mburo National Park, arranged by WildHorn Africa.

Transfer from Lake Mburo National Park to Entebbe

The day will begin with an early breakfast, followed by a game drive at Lake Mburo National Park to observe more wildlife. Afterwards, the journey to Entebbe International Airport will commence. If desired, a stopover at the Equator crossing is planned, providing an opportunity to enjoy coffee and purchase handicrafts. After the stop, the drive to Entebbe will continue. The estimated travel time to Entebbe is approximately 5 hours, allowing enough time to check in for an evening flight departing from Entebbe. This itinerary is organized by WildHorn Africa.
